FS#10627 — sup2T exception
Scheduled Maintenance Report for Network & Infrastructure
Completed
We have a serious issue with the Cisco 6500 SUP2Ts.
There is a bug in the TCAM programmming and when that
happens, the router goes into software mode. Either
the routing card or the entire router must be rebooted.

We are working with Cisco on this bug but it's
not possible to reproduce it. It's a very special
case. Cisco will provide us with a special router
to analyse what is happening on the network and
that may crash. When that happens we will know
how...

Meanwhile, we have 1-3 cards crashing per day.
To limit the damage we are seeing if dampening
might limit the number of prefixes that are flapping
and thus limit the programming number on the TCAM.

conf t
router bgp 16276
address-family ipv4 unicast
bgp dampening
address-family ipv6 unicast
bgp dampening
end

We have just applied it on all the SUP2Ts
of the backbone.
